Beach Baby
Here are some pictures (remember they’re always clickable so you can see them bigger) from Siena’s first beach trip on Mother’s Day weekend.
We spent Friday night at my grandparents’ beach cabin (where we spent part of our honeymoon), then my parents and two of my sisters joined us for lunch on Saturday. Siena discovered that a spoon can sound pretty cool when tapped on a copper table.
Back at the cabin, my sisters spent some time with Siena while my dad and husband mowed and weeded.
Then we all admired Siena’s emerging crawl before saying goodbye to my family.
We walked to the sand for Siena’s first impression of a windy West Coast beach.
Her face gets very serious in the wind, but kissing her cheek usually gets a good smile out of her.
She was quietly curious, content to nestle into her Daddy’s arms when the wind picked up,
but decidedly NOT thrilled with brushing the sand off her feet. (I don’t blame her – that was always my least favorite part of the beach, too!)
We look forward to future visits, full of digging, sandcastles, seashells, and kites.
On the drive home, I kept thinking how blessed I am to have such happy childhood memories at the beach cabin, and how thankful I am for the opportunity to share them with my new little family as we make our own.

She is so cute! We have that same apple toy…it was my favorite as a baby so my mom saved it for us.
I’m not sure which is worse, brushing off sand, or rinsing it away with cold water. Warm water would be my preference, but that never seems to be available at the time.
Yes, we were blessed by wonderful beach trips. You particularly enjoyed our time there. I remember lots of photos of your big grin when kiting (remember chasing lifesaver parachutes?) or wading.
Jami – my mom got such a kick out of seeing Siena enjoy that Happy Apple from when we were babies that she got on EBay and bought one for each of us girls and our potential future children!
Probably one of the few 1980’s baby items that would still be considered safe and PC nowadays!
What a fantastic way to spend mother’s day! Love the pictures!
